AC shelby cobra

The AC Cobra was a British built sports car produced during the early 60s.

After several years the Bristol based company teamed up with American company Shelby to produce a more powerful racing car the AC Shelby Cobra.

AC used to send unpainted rolling chassis over to U.S. and then Shelby would finish building the car.

One of the engines Shelby used to fit into the Cobras was the Ford 427 which was a 7.0 litre with 425 bhp and could reach a top speed of 163 mph (262 km/h) in the standard model. They also produced a competition model with 485 bhp and a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h).

This extremely fast car had a very successful racing career winning many famous races including the 24 hour Le Mans. The Cobra was claiming victories over competitors such as Ferrari and Corvette.

In 1966 Shelby produced just 2 special Cobras called the 427 Super Snake. This unique model produced a whopping 800 bhp and could go 0-60 in just 3 seconds. This powerful model is still around today and won the title of “being the most expensive American car ever sold” as it reached $5.5 million at a collectors car auction in 2007.
The specifications are impressive for nowadays just imagine what this car must have been like in its prime in the 60s. I have to admit that this classic car was one of my favorite cars as a child and still is today.
