Bmw X5 gets an M

The M version of the X5 comes with double spoke 20inch light alloy wheels and quad tailpipes strutting out of the back giving it a distinctive M look.

The X5 M is powered by a twin turbo 4.4litre V8 engine and produces 555bhp. It can hit 155mph (250km/h) and if you opt for the optional M drivers package you hit that little bit higher of 170mph (275km/h). This Bmw X5 M can reach 60mph (100km/h) in 4.7 seconds but is just a 0.5 of a second slower than the supercharged Range Rover Sport.

The interior gives of an ambiance of high class with its Merino leather M seats that fit the contours of your body like a perfectly tailored suit. The steering wheel has been ergonomically designed and comes with Aluminuim paddles to allow manual shifting of the 6 speed gearbox.

One of the special features of the M is the ‘launch control’ which enables the driver to accelerate from standstill with maximum performance. To use the Launch Control feature, the driver must stop the vehicle, move the gear selector into the M/S position and activate the Sports Power mode, as well as the M Dynamic mode. Then, with the transmission in stage M1, the driver presses down the brake pedal and moves the accelerator to at least 60% throttle, setting Launch Control to standby. Standby status is confirmed by “starter’s flag” symbol showing up in the instrument panel. As soon as the driver releases the brake pedal, the vehicle will accelerate with full power in “genuine racing style.” In the process, the M Sports Automatic transmission automatically up shifts at the ideal points, with the fastest possible shifts and optimum wheel spin control. The driver may terminate the Launch Control process at any time by reducing the throttle position.

The BMW X5 M comes with the Park Distance Control (PDC) which makes parking effortless, thanks to ultrasound sensors in the front and rear of the vehicle. PDC warns the driver about the proximity of obstacles with a clear audio signal. Obstacles can also be displayed on the iDrive Control Display. Parking becomes easier, more relaxing and safer. With the optional Top View, a camera in the exterior mirror covers the door area and road surface. For a better overview and increased safety.

Another added extra is the optional TV function which enables viewing of analogue and digital television (DVB-T) programmes on the Control Display screen when the vehicle is stationary. Programmes are selected using the central control unit, and as soon as the BMW X5 M starts to move, the display is automatically turned off to ensure your safety. If optional screens are fitted in the rear, passengers are of course free to carry on viewing their favourite programmes during the journey.

Prices for the BMW X5 M start from £76,110 ($86,225).

In fact, I am liking this new model much more and additional. Quite possibly for the reason that it kinda has a resemblance to the earlier classier styles. The down played yet classy design, the extended, low front. Too bad I cannot have the funds for one for at least five years…
