DMC DeLorean Is Coming Back To The Future

by

The DMC DeLorean became famous after appearing in the hit movie from the eighties “Back to the Future” which starred Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Well its good news for fans of the famous sports car because the current owner of the DeLorean Motor Company, Stephen Wynne is developing the iconic car for production again and it will be 100% electric.

The company was bought by Stephen back in 1995 and was set up in Houston, Texas. Up until now DMC has only been producing parts and offering service for DMC-12 owners but now they are looking to produce the DeLorean but with an electric powerplant.

The new DeLorean Owners will have the same exterior as the original except for a flip down front grille that allows access to the hidden charge point. The interior has also been left close to the original with the exception of a new steering wheel, a touchscreen stereo, and a Audi MMI-like silver knob for operating the automatic transmission.

Most of the changes on the new DeLorean will be in the performance. The electric powerplant will produce 260 horsepower and have a top speed of 125 mph. Range limit on a full charge has not been announced but we can expect it to be on a par with the Nissan Leaf.

The electric DeLorean is due to be ready for release in 2013 and it will be available with price tag of around $90-$100 grand.

Chris’ Thought’s

Most people know that the Delorean was a poor performer but it had a style that appealed to many people and thanks to the movie Back to the Future it became an icon.

It’s good to see the car is making a come back and I am sure there are fans of the DeLorean that are excited about the news. Hopefully they have sorted out the original weight distribution and performance problems.
