Monster truck world record jump fail: Video

American driver, Joey Sylvester and his Bad Habit monster truck planned to break the World Jump Record, but unfortunately during a practice run, a miss calculation sent him hitting the ground in a big crash.

On 31st of October, Joey Sylvester tried to jump his monster truck a distance of 202 ft. Obviously they hadn’t calculated all the angles and numbers correctly and ended up breaking the monster truck instead of the record.

Watch the failed event below but don’t worry the driver walked away with just his pride hurt.

Peugeot EX1 concept teaser

French automaker have announced that they will be unveiling a new concept car at the Paris motor show later this month and have released this image to tease.. The Peugeot EX1 is in celebration of the brand’s 200th anniversary.

The Peugeot EX1 will be a sporty model and powered by either an all-electric powertrain or a hybrid system. The exact specs of the propulsion system of the new concept have not been released.

While this concept probably never make it to production we may see some of its design features appearing on future Peugeot cars.

Corvette ZR1 vs F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet: Video

MotorTrend have released another video putting the Corvette ZR1 in a head to head drag race against a fighter jet, the F/A-18 Hornet or other wise known as the Blue Angel.

If you have ever seen the Blue Angels in action at an airshow, then you know just how awesome they are. Better yet, if you have ever been lucky enough to strap in the cockpit of an F/A-18 Hornet, then you really can contest to how much of a bad-assed jet it really is. The new Corvette ZR1 is probably one of the closest things you can experience on land similar to a jet fighter (excluding the Bugatti Veyron of course). MotorTrend takes the ZR1 (Blue Devil) out against a Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornet for a drag race to 100mph just to see who would really win. Remember, the ZR1 can reach 60mph from a standstill in 3.3 second in part due to its 638 horsepower Supercharged V8 engine. On the other hand, the F/A-18 Hornet packs in over 32,000 lbs of thrust making it capable of mach 1.8 (1,400mph).

Ferrari recalls every 458 Italia due to fire issue

Ferrari has recently conducted an investigation into why many of the new 458 Italias have gone up in flames and as a result they have issued a voluntary safety recall to get modifications carried out to all these Italian supercars.

The recall covers all Ferrari 458 Italias built so far, up until the end of July. As the factory was shut in August, so no cars were made in that month, this will affect 1,248 cars.

Ferrari dealers will be contacting clients via email, phone or letter to conduct the necessary changes which include, modifying the rear wheel-arch and heat-shield assembly.

Ferrari has discovered that the adhesive used in the wheel arch assembly has been found to melt at high temperatures, thus deforming the wheel arch which can then fall against the exhaust. If the car is being driven hard in places with a high ambient temperature, there is also a risk that the adhesive can catch fire.

Owners of the five cars which hit the headlines because of fire damage will be given a brand new replacement Ferrari Italia 458 free of charge, as long as the fire was caused by the adhesive issue.

Top Gear USA Trailer with plenty of Bull: Video

The American version of Top Gear has released a new trailer showing a glimpse at one of the first episodes to be screened later this year.

Top Gear USA’s second trailer shows a trio of Lamborghinis, including the Murcielago SV, the Gallardo Superleggera and the special edition, rear-wheel-drive Gallardo Valentino Balboni. The three Top gear presenters push these exotic supercars to the limit and describe the feeling of taking the Italian bull by its horns and one presenter went as far as to say the the Gallardo Superleggera is like “being aroused at gunpoint”.

The new Top Gear USA will air on The History Channel and will feature presenters Rutledge Wood, Adam Ferrara and Tanner Foust.

Top Gear has not announced yet who will play The Stig and I doubt they will.

2011 Dodge Durango

Chrysler has released images along with the full details of the new 2011 Dodge Durango. This new SUV is all-new from the inside out. And the changes are more than skin deep. The Durango’s stiffened unibody structure is engineered with the driving enthusiast in mind. The end result is a vehicle that delivers premium driving performance combined with SUV capability and crossover versatility.

The 2011 Dodge Durango comes with a choice of two power units, a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine and a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine.

The V8 2011 Dodge Durango has a towing capability of 7,400 lbs while the V6 has a lower 6,200 lbs of pulling force. Both come with a trailer sway control and are also available with all-wheel drive. Dodge claims that the new Durango V8 can tow more weight than a 24-foot boat and trailer.

As for the interior Dodge has fitted higher quality materials, that promises to offer comfort for all three rows of passengers and some of the new features include Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Keyless Enter-n’ Go.

The 2011 Dodge Durango price list will be announced at a later date. the new version will be
available in dealerships towards the end of 2010.

The Stig wins court case to publish autobiography: Video

Ben Collins, aka The Stig appeared in court recently and the judges ruled in his favor for him to publish the Stig’s autobiography. This confirms the fact that the 35-year-old former Formula 3 driver was The Stig from the BBC’s popular TV program Top Gear for the last seven years.

Ghostbuster Ecto 1 up for auction

Historics at Brooklands has announced today that they will be auctioning of the famous Ghostbusters Cadillac on the 25th of September. The Ghostbusters Ecto 1 is actually a 1959 Cadillac S&S ambulance rescued from a Church in Maryland, USA. It went under a rigorous restoration program and is now a tribute to the iconic Ghostbusters movie car.

The Ghostbusters Ecto 1 Cadillac is the work of coachbuilder Chris Reynolds who spent more than $100,000 (£65,000 GBP) turning it into this ghost hunting machine.

The restored Ecto 1 weighs 2.55 tonnes and measures 20ft in length and 6.5ft in width. It is powered by a 6.5 liter V8 engine and a has a fuel consumption of 8 mpg!

Whilst the car’s exterior represents a faithful recreation of the 1984 film car – including identical logos and roof props – ‘Ecto 1’s interior has been designed as a luxurious limousine, benefiting from a £7,000 refit that includes three leather-clad bench seats designed to transport suitors in style.

The Ghostbusters Cadillac is expected to fetch at the auction between £75,000 GBP and £85,000 GBP.

A 1959 Cadillac S&S ambulance rescued from a Church in Maryland, USA, after being read it’s last rights, has undergone a miraculous restoration as a tribute to the iconic Ghostbusters movie car, and is now being auctioned at Historics at Brooklands forthcoming sale on 25th September.

Having previously been fettled for use in Church parades – including having its roof removed – coachbuilder Chris Reynolds saved the car from a ‘fete’ worse than death, and has since spent £65,000 turning it into one of the most sought-after promo and private-hire vehicles in Europe. Weighing in at a mighty 2.55 tonnes, the massive American motorcar measures 20ft long by 6.5ft wide and powered by a mighty 6.5 litre V8 engine, manages approximately 8 mpg!

Whilst the car’s exterior represents a faithful recreation of the 1984 film car – including identical logos and roof props – ‘Ecto 1’s interior has been designed as a luxurious limousine, benefiting from a £7,000 refit that includes three leather-clad bench seats designed to transport suitors in style.

Chris Reynolds commented: “The car’s ghostly presence is in stark contrast to the real life experience of bringing it back to life – and the cost of doing so! The car was about to be scrapped when I discovered it and the restoration has been a real labour of love, and hopefully it will find a worthy home.”

Capable of generating significant returns if utilised for private hire, the Ghostbusters car represents a real investment opportunity in more ways than one, and is expected to fetch offers in the region of £75,000 – £85,000 at Historics second sale on September 25th.

Hyundai ix20 to be unveiled at Paris motor show

South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has released the first image of their new all new MPV, the Hyundai ix20. The new ix20 B-segment MPV is due to have its world premiere at the 2010 Paris Auto show on September 30th.

The Hyundai ix20 was designed at the company’s European R&D center in Russelsheim, Germany, and is their second model to employ the use of the new ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language.

Although an MPV, the name of the Hyundai ix20 is meant to suggest its crossover capabilities. The company hopes the customers will be able to use the Hyundai ix20 both as a people carrier and as a fun-to-drive vehicle.

Up until this point no further details of the Hyundai ix20 have been released. The complete Hyundai ix20 specs including its engine options and other technical specifications, including more images of course, will be released closer to the new model’s unveiling.
