Images of the new BMW X5, confirmed

Last week I posted images of the new BMW X5, well it has been confirmed that these images are the real deal and here is more information on BMW’s 2011 X5 LCI.

Today, BMW took the cover off their latest X5 Sports Activity Vehicle. The are a number of changes for the 2011 model, both in terms of exterior design and performance.
The front-end has recieved an extensive face lift, the lower front bumper/fascia appears to have been lifted and resembles the X6. The new front bumper allows for wider air openings to feed the larger and more powerful engines more air.
BMW are scrapping the X5 3.0 and X5 4.8 engines and replacing them with a N55 twin-scroll single turbocharged 3.0-liter engine that produces 300hp and a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that kicks out 400hp, similar to the engine in the X5 and X6 M models.
So now it will be the X5 xDrive35i and X5 xDrive50i, same with the X6. Performance wise the 35i can hit 60mph (100km/h) in 6.4 seconds and the 50i can do it in 5.3 seconds. Which is drastically faster than the past engines.
To control all this extra power BMW will be installing an all-new 8-speed steptronic automatic, which is currently being used in the 5-Series GT and 760Li.
In conjunction with the release of these new images BMW have also released a serious of videos showing the 2011 BMW X5 in all its glory. Watch them below and enjoy!

In fact, I am liking this latest edition alot more and far more. Maybe since it somewhat looks like the elder classy versions. The down played nevertheless sophisticated design, the long, low front. Too bad I won’t be able to buy one for perhaps 10 yrs…
