Lancia is voted as most successful rally car manufacturer by WRC

Lancia has produced many beautiful rally cars, there has hardly been a bad one among them and all except the Beta has won rallys.
Lancia started their winning rally history with the Fluvia in 1960.

Next came the Stratos in 1972 which had the engine from a Ferrari Dino that was fitted in the back. This 270bhp rally car was still winning races nine years later in 1981.

In 1983 Lancia’s 037 was winning titles, this model had the same engine as the Stratos but had extra power from a supercharger. 1984 was the last year the 037 won due to competition from other manufacturers entering with the revolutionary 4 wheel drive system.

Lancia’s answer to the 4 wheel drive era was the Delta S4 which had a mid mounted engine. One benefit it had over the other competitors was its supercharger and the Delta came through for Lancia winning the 1985 RAC Rally.

In 1987 a new version of the Delta was born and it was named the HF Integrale, this made its predecessor look mediocre with its bigger turbo and wider arches and this version was only beaten once.

The Lancia HF Integrale was winning titles until the end of 1992 when Lancia officially withdrew from the WRC.

Lancia managed to notch up 45 wins between 1987 and 1992 and its final version, Super Delta HF Integrale or the Deltona as it was known, was the car that really made Lancia famous.

Andrea Aghini holds the honour of being the winner of Lancia’s 74th and final WRC event in Sanremo, 1992.
