For the first time ever a Ford Mustang will be the pace car at the Daytona 500 on February 14th at Daytona International Speedway.
The last time a Ford served as pace car for the Daytona 500 was 40 years ago when a Ford Torino GT convertible led the field to the green flag.

This special edition Mustang GT features a special Daytona 500 paint scheme, Ford Racing suspension, strut tower brace and mufflers, unique painted wheels, and special interior treatment, including specially branded lit sill plates.
Powering this muscle car is an all new 5.0-litre V8 engine which kicks out 412 horsepower.

It’s pretty surprising that Ford hasn’t had Daytona 500 Pace car since the 70’s. Speaking of Torinos, here’s a trivia question. What was the last year the Ford Torino was available as a convertible?
