New Audi E-tron concept car: Video
Audi unveiled its third version of the E-tron concept car earlier this year. This electric sports car is just as wide but slightly shorter than its predecessors.
It is powered by 2 electric motors that drive the rear wheels and create a total output of 204hp.
The car is built using a mixture of aluminum and carbon fiber. It weighs 2,976 pounds, thats 550 pounds lighter than the previous e-trons. With its reduced weight and reworked drivetrain, the e-tron hits 60mph ( 100km/h) in 5.9 seconds. Audi also claims the e-tron can run on a single charge for 249km/h after a full charge of 11 hours.
One of the new developed features on the E-tron are the fully automatic headlamps with a light assistance system that reacts to any situation. This new technology recognizes weather conditions and adapts the illumination to rain or fog. The technology at the heart of the light assistance system is a camera that works together with a fast computer. If there is oncoming traffic, for example, the high beams are turned off in the corresponding section of the illumination field. The cornering light system analyzes data from the navigation system and illuminates corners before the driver steers into them. The Audi e-tron does not have conventional fog lamps that consume additional power. It instead intelligently varies the low beams to widen the illumination field, thus significantly reducing the glare from the car’s own lights.
Audi has stated that a production version of the e-tron will go on sale in late 2012, and this most recent concept is a clearer indication of what we’ll see on the road in two year’s time.
